National Webinar on Be Media Literate: Catch Untrue Advertising claims organised by D.A.V. Centenary College, Faridabad
A National Webinar on “Be Media Literate: Catch Untrue Advertising Claims ” was organized by the Department of Journalism of DAV Centenary College, Faridabad. The keynote speaker of the webinar, Ms. Padmini Jain, Assistant Professor, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, gave valuable information about how not to be taken in by misleading and untrue advertisements to more than 400 teachers, students, researchers, journalists and media persons from different states. Ms. Padmini Jain, who has been a trained mountaineer as well as a radio host, Personality Development Trainer, Child Rights Trainer with UNICEF and a soft skills trainer at Infosys,has also worked with reputed companies like Mudra , Google and Convergys etc.An alumna of Punjab University, IIT Delhi and IIMC, New Delhi, and a double NET in Psychology and Mass Communication, her videos are a part of the NCERT syllabus.
Many dignitaries from across India along with our students and the faculty attended this National Webinar. As the keynote speaker,Ms.Padmini Jain exhorted everyone to develop the understanding and power to test facts and go in for reliable evidence rather than blindly follow glitzy advertisements and the promotion of products and services undertaken by famous celebrities.
Ms. Padmini Jain shared very important insights with everyone through a question answer session that followed. Dr. Savita Bhagat, the program’s mentor and the Officiating Principal of the college, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the keynote speaker and all the dignitaries and the other attendees present and emphasized the necessity of proper education to be aware of unethical advertising in today’s era and to become more critically aware consumers. She said that the college was doing everything possible to help students become more awakened citizens and wished them a bright future.
All the students of journalism of the college also participated in this national webinar. Speaking on this occasion, Miss Rachna Kasana, Head of the Department of Journalism,said that the purpose behind organizing such a National Webinar was to make our students and students from other states, media workers, and teachers aware of the misleading things happening in the journalism or advertising world.
The program was conducted by Miss Rachna Kasana, HOD, Department of Journalism.Ms. Ritu Sachdeva, Dinesh Chaudhary, Dr. Priya Kapoor and Pramod Kumar were the members of organizing committee who gave full support to make this event a big success. All the students and dignitaries who attended the webinar were happy and found it a rewarding experience. With the cooperation of all, the program was a big success.
