The Tourism Department of DAV Centenary College, Faridabad, successfully organized a departmental-level PPT competition in the IQAC room on 10th October 2024. Students of the Tourism Department showcased their research and findings on various tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, which they explored during a field visit in March this year.
The students highlighted key aspects of Himachal Pradesh's tourism landscape, discussing its cultural and social strengths, as well as the impact of tourism on local communities. This research is an integral part of the Tourism curriculum, providing students with hands-on experience in the field. Data was collected from various stakeholders, including the hotel industry, transport sector, travel agencies, local communities, and government offices. Using a pre-designed questionnaire, students gathered insights to prepare comprehensive field trip reports.
Fifteen students presented their findings through well-structured PowerPoint presentations, covering important topics such as tour itineraries, major destinations, accommodation options, the mythology and history of the locations, tourism statistics from recent years, key observations, challenges, and their recommendations for improving tourism in the region.
The college’s officiating Principal commended the Tourism Department for organizing such an enriching event and encouraged students to further refine their research methodologies, particularly in terms of questionnaire design and sample size.
Dr. Ankita Mohindra and Dr. Neeraj Singh, who served as judges for the competition, praised the students' efforts and provided valuable feedback to help them improve their presentations.
The event was led by the Head of the Tourism Department, Mr. Amit Kumar, and was organized by a dedicated team comprising Mr. Manjeet Singh, Ms. Himanshi, and Ms. Sharayu. Students were awarded certificates in recognition of their participation and achievements.
This event not only enhanced the students’ understanding of the tourism sector but also provided them with a platform to develop their research and presentation skills.
