Movie Screening of "Pinjar" Organised by Department of English (PG), DAV Centenary College*
The Department of English (PG) at DAV Centenary College, Faridabad, organized a special screening of the Bollywood film 'Pinjar', based on the acclaimed Punjabi novel by renowned author Amrita Pritam. The movie, which is a part of the Master of Arts (English) syllabus, delves into the deep social and emotional impacts of the Partition of India, a key historical event.
The screening was attended by around 30 students and faculty members, who thoroughly enjoyed the film. Dr. Archana Bhatia, the Officiating Principal of the college, graced the event and emphasized the significance of visual art forms in the study of literature. In her address to the students, Dr. Bhatia praised the film's portrayal of complex themes and encouraged students to appreciate how literature and cinema complement each other in understanding cultural and historical contexts.
Dr. Priyanka Angiras, Head of the MA English Department, along with faculty members Mr. Vivek Sabharwal, Ms. Vijaya Rani, and Ms. Shivani Yadav, also attended the screening. The event provided an enriching experience, allowing students to engage with the novel's themes in a visual format, deepening their understanding of the socio-political issues surrounding the Partition.
The Department of English continues to organize such events to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical appreciation of literary works through diverse mediums.
