Compost making event

DAV Centenary College Faridabad organises Compost making event today on 05/12/2024 This event was conceptualised and actively coordinated by worthy officiating principal Dr Archana Bhatia . Dr Ruchi Arora who is also an environment enthusiast and advocates adoption of green technologies in campus formally coordinated with Dr Neeraj Singh , convenor environment club who organised this campaign. The whole idea was to involve everyone from college be it teaching and non teaching staff or students , anyone and everyone can bring and contribute household organic waste for our compost machine. Then it was decided that on a pilot basis we will start with only teaching and non teaching staff and afterwards we will proceed with involvement of all students in the next stage. Prior to the day of organic waste collection two days earlier a meeting of all staff members was organised under the chairmanship of worthy Principal Dr Archana Bhatia followed by Dr Neeraj Singh , convenor briefing and sensitising everyone about the need to adopt sustainable practises and green initiatives in all spheres of life and also in the college. It was proposed that while coming to college in the morning all staff members will also bring discarded organic material from home e.g fruits and vegetable peels , leftover food etc and contribute to college at a place that was a few drums kept at a designated place under the supervision of a gardening staff so that material be collected properly. It is noteworthy here to mention that DAV College has a functioning compost making machine with a processing capacity of 25kg/day but due to lack of fixed source of raw material it was yet to be used to it’s maximum potential on a daily basis. college doesn’t have any fixed source to collect this quantity of raw material daily and college used to largely procures compost for gardening requirements from open market , nurseries or horticulturists etc This initiative today was targeted to make college self reliant in compost making for all our horticultural and gardening needs within the campus. It is worth mentioning here that district higher education officer Dr Sunidhi also graced the occasion and visited to see the compost making by herself. She was all praise for this green initiative by the college and said this will set an example for various other institutions. On this occasion Dr Anju Gupta , Dr Narender Duggal , Dr Ruchi Arora , Ms Sunita Dudeja and all teaching and non teaching staff contributed organic waste brought along-with them and agreed upon bringing organic waste material on a regular basis for this environmentally sustainable practise.
